Blancpain: The L-evolution Tourbillon Grande Date Reserve de Marche sur Masse Oscillante

A unique and better answer for the power reserve by Blancpain

Blancpain is changing the rules on the power reserve and presents its L-evolution Tourbillon Grande Date with the power reserve indicator situated on the winding rotor of the timepiece.

Moving the power-reserve indication to the winding rotor balances the design of the dial, and Blancpain has thus decided to move from its traditional space one of the fine watchmaking’s grand complications. The vital purpose of the complication can be completely fulfilled if the display is on the back of the watch, and if it is placed there then needless complication can be removed from the dial, increasing the readability of all of the other dialside indications.

This is precisely the thinking that led Blancpain to the design of the L-evolution Tourbillon Grande Date Réserve de Marche sur Masse Oscillante. The designers saw an opportunity to engineer a solution which had never before been achieved: place the powerreserve indicator on a movement element intimately tied to this display, the winding rotor.

The L-evolution Tourbillon Grande Date Réserve de Marche sur Masse Oscillante is offered in both red-gold and white-gold versions.

Blancpain treat for the ladies

Special Saint-Valentin Edition 2012

Blancpain will be presenting, as every year now, an exclusive creation for Valentine’s Day. A limited series of 14 watches set with 2.95K of precious stones adding refined aesthetics to the Blancpain Women collection.

With its diamond-set bezel and lugs, caseband set with four diamonds and a heart-shaped ruby, crown adorned with a diamond and pushpieces covered with cabochon-cut rubies, the white gold case of this Saint-Valentin Chronograph 2012 sparkles with dazzling splendour. Its engraved mother-of-pearl dial, featuring a marquetry-work motif composed of three white mother-of-pearl hearts and set with 8 diamonds, highlights the exquisite craftsmanship of the master-dialmakers of the Manufacture.

The Saint-Valentin Chronograph 2012 houses the self-winding Calibre F185 that drove the very first ladies’ flyback chronograph model. It features central hour and minute hands, seconds shown on a subdial at 6 o’clock and the date appearing through an oval aperture at 12 o’clock.  In an additional nod to Cupid, the heart-shaped counterweight of the central sweep seconds hand is delicately hand-painted with a feather.

The Blancpain Saint-Valentin 2012 special edition watches will be presented in a precious wooden box lined with white nappa leather and they will be exclusively available at the Blancpain boutiques.

Blancpain Celebrates the holidays with Guitar Aficionado

The “Masters of Music and Time” event in New York

Blancpain US Brand President Adam Bossi join forces with Guitar Aficionado Magazine in a holiday event, the “Masters of Music and Time”, featuring special timepieces and 10 premium guitars.

The evening took place at Blancpain’s Boutique in New York as part of the end of year celebrations. Among the featured guitars there were three made in 1953, an Epiphone Emperor with Amp, a Gibson Les Paul Gold top and a 1953 Fender Telecaster.

As a special treat and in demonstrating the organic synchronicity between music and timekeeping, the evening was topped off by The Swatch Group’s watchmaker, Nick Franciosa who took the stage alongside the band to play the saxophone.

Also in attendance to celebrate the art and design of Blancpain watches and fine guitars was renowned luthier Paul Reed Smith as well as Rudy Pensa, author and founder of Rudy’s Music Soho.

Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Pro-Am

2011 Season concludes

The 2011 Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Pro-Am Drivers’ title battle went to the
last race of the 18-round season, illustrating the competitiveness of the one-make
series.

At the car race sponsored by Blancpain that concluded last weekend, talented gentleman driver C. Leimer was crowned champion, with Italy’s Matteo Zucchi and Austria’s Gerhard Tweraser also in contention until the end of the race. Joining the season’s awards ceremony was Italian Fabio Babini, who secured the 2011 Pro Drivers’ title during the penultimate race weekend in Hockenheim.

New faces for the finale included the FIA GT3 European Championship’s Bernard
Delhez and Dimitri Enjalbert, who claimed victory in race one to start their
Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo experience in style, as well as France’s Auto
Hebdo journalist Romain Bernard, who earned a podium finish in race two alongside
chief Lamborghini test driver Giorgio Sanna.

With a very successful series of 18 rounds with specular turn of events, the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo will return in 2012 and 2013, with a sister series launching in Asia next year.

Blancpain presents the new X Fathoms Dive Watch

The Watch of all Superlatives

Blancpain revealed its latest diving watch in the context of a spectacular event taking place in the largest aquarium in the world, the Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo in the Dubai Mall. The X Fathoms revisits the characteristics of its iconic 1953 ancestor, and combines them with a mechanical depth gauge to create the most high-performance mechanical diving watch ever produced.

With a depth measure up to 90 meters and maximum depth reached memory, the X Fathoms concept watch abounds in world firsts. Its movement, reference 9918B, is based on the Manufacture-made Calibre 1315, which has already proved its worth by successfully powering several models in the Fifty Fathoms collection.

The impressive Blancpain X Fathoms comes presented on a high-tech rubber strap and with only sketchy details and specifications available so far. We do know it’s massively big, with a 55.65 mm diameter made of satin-brushed titanium featuring a helium decompression valve for saturation diving and the unidirectional rotating bezel.

Presented in the largest aquarium in the world, the individual calibration of each X Fathoms guaranties maximal precision of depth indications. To offer optimal legibility a matt black background dial colour was chosen to enhance contrast with the three-colour luminescence hands and hour markers, making it easy to distinguish indications underwater.
