For the last 30 years, Piaget has been associated with the polo universe. Thirty years ago, the watchmaker brand produced the first polo watch.
The Piaget Polo watch, with its unique style and design, was launched in 1979 and soon became one of the brand’s iconic models. Inspired by the characteristic elegance of the polo clubs and their associates, the Piaget Polo Watch was adopted not only by the polo circle but also by stars as a luxurious object. It was a symbol of its time as it became a new way of wearing entirely gold timepieces.
It was then during the 80s that Piaget, under the lead of Yves G. Piaget, associated the watch brand to polo sport as it was an activity that clearly reflected the brand’s values: boldness, rigour and precision.
In order to celebrate the 30th anniversary of this emblematic collection, Piaget gave birth to five new versions in 2009 with a remaining faith to the 1979s design, the historical dials reveal their precious character without ostentation. Piaget’s anniversary models pay tribute to the characteristic design of the collection. But the landmark above all is represented by the new sporting chic model that opens up a whole new phase for the watchmaker company.
1979-2009: the Piaget Polo collection has made its mark on 30 years of watchmaking history. A brand icon, Piaget Polo is more timeless than ever.

President Abraham Lincoln.
When Abraham Lincoln consigned his pocket watch to Jonathan Dillon in 1861, the immigrant watchmaker, while repairing it, inscribed a massage inside the watch. Then, he close it up and gave it back to the President, who died without knowing about this fact.
“Jonathan Dillon April 13-1861. Fort Sumper was attacked by rebels on the above date. Thank God we have a governmentâ€, was the secret message. The one unknown till when the pocket and now mysterious watch was donated to the Smithsonian in 1958. As it was never opened, the secret remain through the years as a legend.
Abraham Lincoln's pocket watch.
Rumours of the hidden message have existed for more than 150 years, but they were never taken really serious and so they remained more as a legend than a fact.
It was then, this past February that Douglas Stiles, Dillon’s great-great grandson, found a New York Times article in which this story was written and so he told the Smithsonian.
On March 10th, Smithsonian officials and media members met to prove if it was a legend or a real fact.
Watchmaker Thomas (Towson Watch Company)
Watchmaker Thomas (Towson Watch Company) was the chosen one to open Lincoln’s pocket watch. The watch was truly inscribed in three different sections. Not a legend but a fact. Jonathan Dillon really wrote inside Abraham Lincoln’s pocket watch.

BIG BEN
The Clock Tower seen today is not the first tower to be built in Parliament’s grounds. The original tower was built in 1288-90, during the reign of King Edward I, and located on the north side of New Palace Yard containing a bell and clock. The bell was first named 'Great Edward' and later 'Great Tom’; it then struck on the hour. A second tower replaced the original one in 1367. This was the first public chiming clock in England. By 1707, this tower had fallen into disrepair and was demolished. A sundial was put up in its place.
A terrible fire destroyed most of the Palace of Westminster in 1834. Architects were invited to submit their designs for the new Palace and a commission was set up to select the best. Out of 97 designs submitted, the architect Sir Charles Barry’s was successful. However, his winning design did not feature a clock tower. He added this to his design in 1836.
The construction of the Clock Tower began in September 1843. This is the iconic tower which stands today in the Houses of Parliament. The Clock Tower was built from the inside outwards, meaning that no scaffolding was visible to the outside world. Materials were transported by river. A winch lifted materials to the masons and bricklayers.
Officially, the Clock Tower’s bell is called the Great Bell though it is better known by the name 'Big Ben'. The name 'Big Ben' is often associated with the Clock Tower and the Great Clock as well as the Great Bell. It was to the Great Bell that the name originally was given.
Big Ben rang out on 11 July 1859 but its success was short-lived. In September 1859, the new bell also cracked and Big Ben was silent for four years. During this time, the hour was struck on the fourth quarter bell.
