The 35th anniversary of this historic handshake in space is commemorated with the release of the OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Apollo-Soyuz “35th Anniversary†chronograph in a limited edition of 1,975 watches, featuring a meteorite dial and engraved case back.
The astronauts and cosmonauts signed and donated 10 limited edition OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Apollo-Soyuz “35th Anniversary†chronograph boxes to commemorate the mission’s historic anniversary and participated in a special forum discussion, moderated by space expert Miles O’Brien, sharing their memories of their famous mission and landmark “handshake in space.â€
OMEGA is defined by its pioneering spirit. The brand has participated in some of the most challenging and fascinating adventures in human history, including the conquest of space, including all six lunar landings, the first divers watch in 1932, world-class sports timekeeping, including 24 Olympic games, and an airplane designed to fly around the Earth on solar power. The OMEGA Speedmaster is still the official chronograph of every NASA flight.
On July 17, 1975, Lt. General Stafford (USA) and General Leonov (USSR) met in the docking hatch which linked their respective aircrafts. On the wrists of the three astronauts and two cosmonauts involved in the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project mission was theOMEGA Speedmaster; once docked, Commanders Stafford and Leonov emerged and used their synchronized Speedmasters to time a historic rendezvous through the open hatch of Soyuz. The Apollo-Soyuz Test Project mission marked the first time that spacecraft built by different nations had docked and signaled an era of cooperation in space; it also marked the end of an era as the final flight of the Apollo spacecraft.

An exceptional new team is flying under Breitling colors: the Breitling Wingwalkers, featuring acrobats dancing on aircraft wings in mid-sky. Definitely not for the faint-hearted!
The Breitling Wingwalkers bring together within a truly stunning show two different types of aerobatics: one with planes flying in formation, and another with young women perched on the center of the upper wing and performing a synchronized choreography. This is a magnificent way of recalling the famous «barnstormers», the teams of pilots and stuntmen who performed all over the place in the period between the two world wars. This squad is unique in the world and has already made a name for itself by displaying its blend of daring and precision at countless shows around Europe, as well as on other continents. It will continue to perform at various major public events, and will also be present at special happenings reserved for brand retailers and VIP clients.
The two planes used for the performances are 1940s open-cockpit Boeing Stearman biplanes, characterized by the beautiful signature sound of their 450 HP engines and a smoke trail system that underscores their movements. Breitling has treated them to a brand-new orange livery that makes them stand out even more brightly against the blue expanse of sky. By supporting various exceptional teams such as the Breitling Jet Team and the Breitling Wingwalkers, and by associating with the greatest aviation venues on the planet such as the famous Reno Air Races or the Red Bull Race World Series, by sponsoring the restoration of legendary aircraft like the Breitling Super Constellation and the Breitling DC-3, the brand with the winged B is faithfully perpetuating its long-established ties with aviation and the conquest of the skies.
