Breguet acquires an exceptional Turkish watch

The timepiece was auctioned in Beijing

Breguets Turkish Watch

The Breguet Museum has acquired an extremely prestigious watch made in 1808 for a dignitary of the Ottoman Empire, for the sum of CHF 650,000 at an auction that has taken place in Beijing.

This historical piece was ordered in 1807 by His Excellency Esseid Ali Effendi, former Turkish ambassador to Paris of the nation nicknamed “The Sublime Portal”, and a personal friend of Abraham-Louis Breguet, who contributed to the awareness of the Turkish market significance.

It was also around this time that Napoleon’s gift to mark the instatement of Sultan Mahmud II in 1813 was a Breguet sympathique clock covered in precious stones – the most expensive object ever made by A.-L. Breguet, and which is still kept in the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul.

This piece was the highlight of the sale held by Poly Auction in Beijing and generated intense bidding. It will thus now be joining the other Breguet Museum treasures.

Breguet is celebrating ten years on Madison Avenue

A decade at the Upper East Side historic District

Breguet celebrated lats week the tenth anniversary of its first US Boutique on Madison Avenue with an exclusive cocktail reception showcasing a selection of the brand’s most coveted timepieces and high jewelry valued at $10 million.

Breguet’s U.S. brand president, Mr. Michael Nelson was joined by friend of the brand, actor Dominic Chianese (The Sopranos), to ring in a new decade. Breguet was among the first high-end timepiece and jewelry retailers on Madison Avenue. The success of that boutique led to the brand’s expansion into Fifth Avenue, Rodeo Drive, Bal Harbor and Las Vegas.

The Breguet Boutique on Madison Avenue opened its doors at a time when New York City was recovering from the tragic events of 9/11/2001. Breguet was committed to be a part of the revival of New York City and dedicated to investing in the Upper East Side’s Historic District.

To mark this decade of pride and accomplishments, the Breguet Boutique on Madison Avenue displayed a spectacular collection of exclusive timepieces that included a diamond-studded minute repeater from the Classique Grande Complications collection, never before seen in the U.S.

Breguet facilities in Switzerland to start renovation works

A new extension in the infrastructure of the Swiss brand

The Swiss bran Breget will be embarking on a two-year extension and transformation of its facilities in L-Orient, right in the watchmaking heart of Switzerland La Vellee de Joux.

Since Breguet became part of the Swatch Group in 1999, a new broom has swept through the workshops in L'Orient (Vallée de Joux). And for good reason: the late Nicolas G. Hayek made the firm his "pet project" and personally oversaw its big-bucks transformation.

Swatch Group has given Breguet the means to an ambitious new end. Of Breguet's one thousand staff, some 600 are employed at the new production facilities, which were extended in 2001/2002. A second expansion project was launched this year and is slated for completion in 2013.

The brand continues to expand and Breguet will also be pressing ahead with its Maison du Patrimoine in L'Abbaye, a few miles away. It will house the brand's collection of 250 historically significant timepieces.
