Limited Edition piece of only 250 pieces

A classic limited edition timepiece will now be available at IWC Hong Kong and Macau boutiques, marking a great milestone on IWC story in Asia.

IWC Schaffhausen presents the Portuguese Sidérale Scafusia

The night sky for your wrist

IWC headquarters in Schaffhausen presented in September 2011 the most complex timepiece created by IWC. According to Georges Kern, CEO of IWC Schaffhausen, the Portuguese Sidérale Scafusia is a universal work of art and the result of ten years’ research by a team of engineers, watchmakers and scientists.

After ten years of intensive research, the Swiss watch manufacturer has succeeded in combining solar time with sidereal time in a single watch. The tiny space on the reverse side accommodates a celestial chart, horizon, geographical coordinates, solar time, sidereal time, sunrise and sunset display as well as a display showing daytime, night-time and twilight.

Every Portuguese Sidérale Scafusia is unique because, apart from the personal celestial chart on the back cover, the customer can also choose from a wide range of case materials and dial designs, as well as the colour and material of the wristband. Finally, at the centre, is the night sky. The horizon, engraved in yellow, shows the night sky as the owner himself sees it at a location of his choice. IWC’s engineers use the coordinates of the individual location to calculate the angle of the horizon and then machine the cams which control the sunrise and sunset display.

Technical details:

Reference 5041

Movement: hand-wound mechanical. Calibre 94900

Power reserve: 96 hours

Diameter: 46 mm

Case: choice of Platinum, 18K red Gold or 18K White Gold

Crystal: Sapphire Glass

Case Back: Perpetual calendar with leap year display and absolute day of the year; Celestial chart showing horizon, ecliptic and celestial equator; Indication for day, night and twilight; Display for sunrise and sunset; Coordinates of chosen location

Water resistance to 30 meters or 99 feet.

IWC partnership with luxury shoemaker Santoni

Portofino Hand-Wound Eight Days Collection

IWC

IWC presented the Portofino Hand-Wound Eight Days Collection at the Malmaison by The Hour Glass; a collection with all the watch straps handcrafted by the legendary Italian shoemaker, Santoni. The Portofino Hand-Wound Eight Days series will be manufactured in combinations of a red-gold case with slate-grey colored dial and a dark brown alligator leather strap; and stainless steel case, in either black dial with a dark brown strap, or silvered dial and a brown strap.

IWC and Santoni have signed a 5-year partnership and the Portofino Hand-Wound Eight Days is the first of more projects to come. Signs of its success was evident throughout the presentation evening when there were many enquiries on whether the Santoni watch strap could fit the watches from the other IWC families, and also whether it comes in other colors besides the current black, dark brown and brown being offered.

One the three timepieces of the latest collection presented, we will feature today the reference IW510104, a version designed in a 18K Red Gold case with a brown alligator leather strap.
