Quentin Tarantino, one of Hollywood’s most acclaimed controversial and quirky directors has been regularly seen wearing luxury watches by the Swiss brand IWC. 

This time around we can see Tarantino’s choice at the time, a beautiful and superb Pilot’s Watch, in perfect timing of the year of the Pilot’s Watches at IWC.

Quentin Jerome Tarantino, born on March 27th 1963 in Knoxville, Tennessee, appeared for the first time as a director at the Sundance Film Festival in 1992 with the much acclaimed moved Reservoir Dogs.  The film garnered critical acclaim and the director became a legend immediately. Two years later, he followed up Dogs success with Pulp Fiction (1994) which premiered at the Cannes film festival, winning the coveted Palme D'Or Award. At the 1995 Academy Awards, it was nominated for the best picture, best director and best original screenplay. Tarantino and writing partner Roger Avary came away with the award only for best original screenplay. In 1995, Tarantino directed one fourth of the anthology Four Rooms (1995) with friends and fellow auteurs Alexandre Rockwell, Robert Rodriguez and Allison Anders. The film opened on December 25th in the United States to very weak reviews. Tarantino's next film was From Dusk Till Dawn (1996), a vampire/crime story which he wrote and co-starred with George Clooney. 

We will start showcasing highlights of the SIHH, Baselworld and Geneva time exhibition little by little, as we will probably be hearing its roar in terms of timepieces all year round. Today we hear a bit more on the 2012 timepieces for IWC. 

With five new models, the Top Gun collection establishes itself as an independent formation within the IWC Pilot’s Watch family. The year’s high-flyer is the Top Gun Miramar: a tribute to the place in California where the myth of the elite pilots was born.

Careful thought was given to the aesthetics. The gray ceramic case and the matte anthracite dial combines to produce a tough yet refined military look. Camouflage colors such as beige for the hands and chapter ring, together with green for the strap, heighten the effect. 

The textile strap borrows from tough fabric webbing belts. It is complemented by two high-tech materials, typical for Top Gun, that were introduced to watchmaking by IWC as early as the 1980s: zirconium oxide for the case, along with titanium for the controls and the watch back.

We have seen so many previews from all the top brands of some of their upcoming finest pieces to be presented at the SIHH 2012 that we feel like almost there! This time we have a preview from IWC and a glimpse of its Pilot’s Watch Top Gun Miramar. 

The Swiss brand IWC has just released some images of this new Chronograph model with the plain high-legibility of a classic Pilot’s watch. This excellent timepiece will feature IWC’s in-house Calibre 89365 with a flyback function and 168 hours of power reserve. 

Designed in a combination of a matt anthracite dial and with covert colours for the hands and chapter ring, IWC Top Gun Miramar Pilot’s Watch will boast a 48mm case made of anti-scratch grey ceramic combined with a military-style textile strap. 

The Top gun Miramar Pilot’s watch is one of the five new pilot’s watches that IWC will be releasing in 2012.
