Throughout time, Rolex has been creating and modifying the different types of bracelets for its watches. The two great models that Rolex created which were a success worldwide were the Oyster and the Jubilee. (see pictures).
The first Oyster bracelet was created in 1947 and its main characteristic was that it had a straight end and was avaliable with fixed or expanding links.
The fixed link made the bracelet look and be rigid while the expanding turned it into an flexible bracelet for a much more confortable movement of the wrist.
The rivetted link desing used hollow links attached together by round ended rivets.
The Jubilee is born in 1960 for the GTM models, adapting later to the rest of the line.
The first clasp used in these bracelets had the Rolex crown located at the edge enabling the clasp to be opened easily.
During the first years, the clasp deployant had the ROLEX S.A inscription.
The last two numbers of the year and swiss made could be read in an oval.
It was changed later and was patterned as the picture shows.
In 1960, Rolex introduced the slip lock clasp. It was designed for extra security and it possesed a locking to fasten the clasp. At the beginning it was meant only for the sports models, Sea Dweller, but later for the rest of the Submariners.
The materials used for these bracelets were: Stainless Steel, Stainless Steel y 9 Kt Gold, Stainless Steel y 14 Kt Gold, with gold on their laterals – 9Kt Gold, 14 y 18.
In 1954 the Flush-fit were introduced in endpieces for all the models, which better fastened the head of the watch to the bracelet, engraving a number on the right side of each endpiece. (see examples)
We can also find bracelets made in USA, manufactured exclusively for the American market in the Oyster rebeted and Jubilee models, with links generally different to the swiss made and with the clasp pattern of Rolex USA.
In 1972 aproximately, Rolex introduces the Folded link bracelet. It is made of stainless steel folded. The materials used were Stainless Steel and 14 kt gold only. The golden bracelets continued to be riveted.
In 1976 Rolex creates the Solid link, manufactured in just one piece.
The last links had screws to take out and fasten the bracelet to the wrist.
This bracelet was manufactured until 2005, year in which Rolex opened its own bracelet factory, modifying the structure, keeping the style but modifying the endpieces and the new style cases with a hidden clasp.
