President's Watches

Nicolas Sarkozy's Rolex Collection.

Nicolas Sarközy de Nagy-Bocsa was born on 28 January 1955. He is the 23rd President of the French Republic. He assumed the office on 16 May 2007 after defeating Socialist Party candidate Ségolène Royal 10 days earlier.

Before his presidency, he was leader of the Union for a Popular Movement (UMP). Under Jacques Chirac's presidency, he served as Minister of the Interior in Jean-Pierre Raffarin's (UMP) first two governments (from May 2002 to March 2004), then was appointed Minister of Finances in Raffarin's last government (March 2004 to May 2005), and again Minister of the Interior in Dominique de Villepin's government (2005-2007).

Sarkozy was also president of the General council of the Hauts-de-Seine department from 2004 to 2007 and mayor of Neuilly-sur-Seine, one of the wealthiest communes of France from 1983 to 2002. He was also Minister of the Budget in the government of Édouard Balladur (RPR, predecessor of the UMP) during François Mitterrand's last term.

Nicolas Sarkozy is a true Rolex collector, with a particular appreciation for the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona, which was made famous by the late American acting icon Paul Newman. He has been pictured many times wearing the classic white faced Daytona, but he seems to prefer the rarer black faced Daytona. The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona is easily recognized for its stainless steel case and an oysterlock bracelet. Rolex Cosmograph features an intricately fashioned dial, whether white or black, and a synthetic sapphire case. It is also water resistant to 100 meters.

Probably one of the rarest and most expensive vintage Rolex watches on the market today, the anti-magnetic Rolex Datocompax Oyster Chronograph has always gone by the adopted name of the “Jean-Claude Killy” Rolex. Popular as the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona identified with Paul Newman or the Rolex Explorer II connected to Steve McQueen, the “Jean-Claude Killy” Rolex was only ever produced infrequently from the late 1950s to the late 1960s. Never reaching mass popularity during its production, this Rolex watch has become incredibly rare and valuable, selling at recent auctions for over $80,000.

What is the RK3DE?

Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event

THE ONLY FOUR STAR THREE-DAY EVENT IN THE AMERICAS

Because horse and rider combinations compete in World Championships and Olympic Games at the Four Star level, the ability to train and test themselves at this level on an annual basis is critical to developing strong individuals and teams for those contests.
While not every combination that competes at the Four Star level will be chosen to represent the U.S. or, in the case of foreign riders, their own country, the Rolex Four Star Championship, $200,000 in prize money and a Rolex Watch make the competition important in its own right. Additionally for U.S. riders, the USET Foundation CCI**** Championship for the Pinnacle Cup marks the high point of any U.S. rider's career.
To win Rolex Kentucky sets a horse and rider apart and they become members of that upper echelon who are winners of a CCI****. Simply to finish also puts them in select company.

ONE OF THREE EVENTS IN THE ROLEX GRAND SLAM OF EVENTING

The Rolex Grand Slam of Eventing awards $250,000 to the Rider who can win the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event, the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials in England the first weekend in May and the Burghley Land Rover Horse Trials in England the first of September in succession. In its 5th year in 2003, Pippa Funnell of Great Britain became the first Grand Slam winner with wins at Kentucky on Primmore's Pride, Badminton on Supreme Rock, and Burghley on Primmore's Pride, taking the $250,000 prize that most had thought impossible to win. When the next Grand Slam winner will burst onto the Eventing scene is anyone's guess.

In 2010, the RK3DE (Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event) will be set on April 22-25, at the Kentucky Horse Park.

Ayrton Senna da Silva Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date

No. N333668, Ref. 16613

(Rolex Oyster Perpetual No. N333668, Ref. 16613. Sold on July 17th, 1992 to Ayrton Senna da Silva)

Ayrton Senna da Silva, was born in São Paulo on March 21st , 1960 and died in Bologna Italy on May 1st , 1994. Ayrton was a Brazilian race car driver and three-time Formula One world champion. He was killed in a crash while leading the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix and still remains the most recent Grand Prix driver to die at the wheel of a Formula One car.

Senna began his motorsport career in karting and moved up the ranks to win the British Formula 3 championship in 1983. Making his Formula One debut with Toleman in 1984, he then moved to Lotus-Renault the following year and won six Grands Prix over the next three seasons. In 1988 he joined Frenchman Alain Prost at McLaren-Honda. Between them, Senna and Prost won fifteen out of the sixteen Grands Prix which took place that season, with Senna winning his first World Championship, a title he would go on to win again in 1990 and 1991. McLaren's performance declined in 1992, as the Williams-Renault combination began to dominate the sport, although Senna won five races to finish as runner-up in 1993. He moved to Williams in 1994, but suffered a fatal accident at the third race of the season at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Italy.

Senna is regarded as one of the greatest drivers in the history of Formula One. He was recognised for his qualifying speed over one lap and held the record for most pole positions from 1989 to 2006. He was among the most talented drivers in extremely rain-affected conditions, as shown by his performances in the 1984 Monaco Grand Prix, the 1985 Portuguese Grand Prix, and the 1993 European Grand Prix. He also holds the record for most victories at the prestigious Monaco Grand Prix (6) and is the third most successful driver of all time in terms of race wins. However, Senna courted controversy throughout his career, particularly during his turbulent rivalry with Alain Prost, which was marked by two championship-deciding collisions at the 1989 and 1990 Japanese Grands Prix.
