TAG HEUER WATCHES HISTORY

TAG Heuer is one of the leading watch manufacturers in the world and the fourth most important watch seller in the wristwatch market. Its company motto "Swiss Avant-Garde Since 1860" characterizes the company's spirit, based on fascination within excellence in design and advanced technology. Progress, precision and innovation have always been the expression of the very core of TAG Heuer's philosophy.

In 1860 Eduard Heuer established his first workshop in St. Imier, Switzerland giving birth to what would be the world's reference of reliability and prestigious sports watches.

In 1869, Heuer invented and patented the first stem-winding system. Then, in 1911, Heuer launched his first dashboard chronograph developed for automobiles called Time of Trip. Five years later, he patented Micrograph, the world's first wristwatch with chronometer function. This unique model was capable of measuring 1/100th a second. In 1920, for the first time ever, the company officially time-kept the Olympic Games competitions.

In 1933 Heuer introduced the Autavia, the dashboard timer used for automobiles and airplanes. Afterwards, the Monte Carlo and the Master-Time were launched. In the 1950-70s, Heuer timepieces were utterly popular in auto sport.

The Autavia chronograph was launched in 1962. Two years later, after Juan Manuel Fangio's triumph during the "Carrera Panamericana Mexico" race, Jack Heuer launched Carrera Chronograph watch paying tribute to this excellent race car driver born in Argentina. Due to its exceptional success, the Carrera Chrono turned into the company's icon.

Again, in 1966, the Heuer Company established his pioneer status according to time measuring by manufacturing the world's first chronograph, capable of measuring 1/1000th a second.
In 1971, the Heuer Monaco watch became highly famous after Steve McQueen wore it in a "Le Mans" movie. That line was called "Steve McQueen Monaco Edition".

The TAG Group Holdings SA bought the Heuer Company, becoming TAG Heuer in 1985. The acronym TAG stands for Techniques D'Avant Garde. In 1992, TAG Heuer turned into the official timekeeper of Formula 1 races, raising even more its status. 1999 brought important changes to TAG Heuer Company as it was purchased by the LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy S.A.), a leading luxury goods company.

In 2002, TAG Heuer opened its first shop in New York. Two years later, it introduced TAG Heuer revolutionary Monaco V4 with a belt-driven movement, a newly patented world's first chronometer, capable of measuring 1/10,000th a second.

At the same time, TAG Heuer introduced wide-reaching its completely new haute couture collection, including the fine Diamond Fiction wristwatch that has 900 diamonds approximately. It shows time by lighting an LED from behind thousands of tiny diamonds. With that superb collection, TAG Heuer attested to its ability for luxury-oriented first class company.

To promote its watches TAG Heuer employed several brand ambassadors, among them: Tiger Woods, Brad Pitt, Maria Sharapova, Lewis Hamilton and others.

TAG Heuer and Leonardo DiCaprio

The Aquaracer 500M

http://www.interwatches.com/images/blog/img1295014126ixf.jpg

TAG Heuer released its first Leonardo DiCaprio co-designed mechanical watch. The Aquaracer 500M were redesigned by DiCaprio as part of an initiative to raise money in support of the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and Green Cross International, two of the most influential and effective environmental organizations in the world. In addition to the royalties generated by the TAG Heuer Aquaracer 500M Leonardo DiCaprio Limited Edition, DiCaprio has also made a multi-million dollar commitment to the organizations.

Each and every day, both the NRDC and Green Cross International are doing important work to protect our planet's resources for future generations, said DiCaprio. Both TAG Heuer and myself hope that this initiative will help expand their reach and raise their profile.

From the beginning of its partnership with DiCaprio in January 2009, the actor and environmental activist has worked with TAG Heuer to design measures that will help the company reduce its carbon footprint.

Since 2002, TAG Heuer has instituted a series of measures in an effort to reduce its carbon footprint: general recycling in its factory and offices, use of FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified paper, and the development of eco-friendly buildings for manufacturing and back office functions.
The new partnership with DiCaprio has triggered more specific measures:

The hiring of a Green specialist in charge of setting up new sustainability policies for the company.
A new laser engraving closed circuit system that saves 900 liters of water an hour.
Recycling of the acclaimed concept-gone-commercial Monaco V4 drive belt scraps to produce new belts.
Vegetal roofs on the manufacture's buildings with specific isolation and water filtering properties.
* Recycling of the heat generated by the machines dusinage des platines to heat up the building in winter.

In addition to the durability of TAG Heuer's products, which are built with only the best quality Swiss watchmaking materials, the company also encourages consumers to preserve their watch and pass it on to the next generation by utilizing TAG Heuer's worldwide network of customer service centers, which provide maintenance and after sale service.

During the first 5 months of 2009, the TAG Heuer watch case factory cut its steel scraps by two thirds compared to 2008. The factory also reduced its water consumption by 70 percent and its fuel consumption by 11 percent. The company managed to reduce its ratio of Electricity/Gross Income by 21 percent, while at the same time improving productivity.

TAG Heuer's 22 subsidiaries Worldwide have also implemented DiCaprio-inspired measures, including the implementation of a paperless office in the Carribean/Latin America, limited air conditioning use in Malaysia and CLA, and a virtual internet catalogue to reduce prints and paper, to name a few.

The future is green for the Swiss watch industry. The Scientific and Development teams at TAG Heuer's Swiss Avant-Garde brand researching the use of new metals for casting. These metalluric changes will lower the environmental impact of casting  by substituting new metals in place of steel or gold.
