Blancpain & ADAC Masters Weekend Eurospeedway Lausitz

ADAC Masters Weekend Eurospeedway Lausitz September 2nd – 4th, 2011

Eight Points at the Most Difficult Race of the Season

Since the start of this season in April almost 40 cars have been fighting for points in the ADAC GT Masters dream sports cars series. Initially wanting to compete in a few races only, Marc A. Hayek quickly found joy in this competition. After all, the Swiss won the first race at the Motorsportarena in Oschersleben (DEU). This was not an isolated case as more victories in the series at the Sachsenring and the Nu?rburgring in Germany show. He was even able to take home two trophies in one weekend at the Nu?rburgring. As a result, Hayek has been leading the amateur class in the ADAC GT Masters since the beginning of the motorsports season even though almost all tracks were new territory for him and he only completed his first few kilometres in the free practice sessions. His partner, the experienced Peter Kox (NDL) is thrilled: “It’s amazing how fast Marc (A. Hayek) is learning and how well he can implement it in the car. He drives very safe and does not risk any damages. Nevertheless, he still fights for places and is able to defy even experienced pilots. Driving with him is a lot of fun. “ The sixth round of the ADAC GT Masters took place this weekend. 16,500 spectators did not want to miss out on this event. The 4.534 km (2.817 miles) long Eurospeedway in Germany was also new territory for Marc A. Hayek. Therefore, he used the free practice sessions on Friday to make himself familiar with the track in perfect weather conditions. However, he was unlucky in the first qualifying session on Friday afternoon crashing his Lamborghini Gallardo LP600+ into the barriers. The entire left side of the racing car and the suspensions were severely damaged and the car was hauled back into the pit. His fastest lap up to this crash resulted in a start position 25 for the first race on Saturday. Hayek had to get himself checked in the medical centre. Luckily, no serious injuries were found. It was not possible to repair the car in time for the second qualifying session which started immediately afterwards. The next day Marc A. Hayek had to get the doctor’s certificate in the medical centre proofing that he was able to race before he was allowed to pilot his car. German team Reiter Engineering was able to repair the car quickly. Marc A. Hayek started the first race on Saturday from P25. Shortly after the start a Phoenix Racing Pole Promotion Audi R8 LMS was involved in a crash in the first turn causing it to spin and stop. Still spinning the rear spoilers of the Audi caught those of Hayek’s Lamborghini who was passing by. The Lambo‘s spoiler broke off at the mounting and the rear undercarriage was damaged. “At first I did not realise that the spoiler had broken off but I noticed the damaged mounting right away”, says Marc A. Hayek. He brought the Gallardo back into the pit and was not able to finish his stint. The second race on Sunday again took place in perfect weather. The duo Kox/Hayek was starting from the last row because they had not been able to participate in the second
qualifying session on Friday. Peter Kox went first and was able to gain a lot of places during his stint. Despite the additional weight of 15kg, which all Lamborghini Gallardo LP 600+ got due to the Balance of Performance, the Dutch was able to go from P36 to P23 in the first lap, an extraordinary achievement. During the mandatory pit stop Marc A. Hayek took over the car in P15. Due to problems at the restart - the Gallardo did not start - the Reiter Engineering mechanics had to push-start the cars. Because of this, race control gave the team a drive- through penalty ten minutes before the end of the race. Therefore, Hayek did have no chance winning a place on the podium this weekend and as a result he is not leading the amateur class anymore at the moment.
In two weeks, the two pilots will have a new chance to win back the first place in the class. The penultimate race of the ADAC GT Masters season will take place in Assen, Netherlands from September 17th – 18th, 2011.
