Hublot King Power Unico GMT Watch

A final preview before the SIHH 2012

It has been a busy year for Hublot with its new partnership with Ferrari and it seems that 2012 will be no different. We have already previewed a few models from Hublot,  we now get a sneak to the Hublot King Power Unico GMT.

To be presented at the SIHH 2012, the Hublot King Power Unico GMT watch not only features one of Hublot’s new in-house movements (its “Unico” series), but it also an interesting manner of showing 24 timezones on the dial.

The new addition to the King Power line will feature four GMT discs attached together by arms that form a plus shape. The discs are all linked and they rotate centrally with the main time. As the discs move, you can tell time in each of the 24 time zones marked by red lines and city names around the outer edge of the dial.

Another impressive timepiece by Hublot that will be anxiously expect to discover at the
SIHH 2012.

Hublot new manufacturing innovation

The firs scratch-resistant 18k gold alloy

Directly from the Hublot Manufacture in Nyon, Jean-Clause Biver, Hublot’s CEO, and Andreas Mortesen, a Professor at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne, unveiled a range of brand new alloys.

These new gold alloys are set to revolutionize the characteristics of precious materials and may also pave the way for a new alloys to be used in the high-tech industry. This new alloy is the result of three years of collaboration an research to create a completely new type of noble gold, making Hublot gold the hardest in the world.

All components of this material are produced using a complex process and the ceramic i also highly refractory, making ti harder at very hight temperatures. This creates a rigid, porous structure without altering its shape and then molten liquid gold is injected under very high pressure.

Hublot has now passed the experimental stage for its new gold and acquired the means to produce the new material entirely in its own Manufacture, thanks to a high-tech foundry enabling processes such as refractory ceramic sintering and high pressure metal casting. The first watches made from Magic Gold will be presented at BaselWorld 2012.
