We have been introducing a few of the new models presented by Panerai at this year’s SIHH. We have two additional models that we will be featuring today, the Radiomir California 3 Days and the Radiomir S.L.C. 3 Days.

The Radiomir California 3 Days has the dial which was almost certainly the first one fitted to the Radiomir case, very original with its alternation of markers, Arabic figures and Roman numerals. The design of the dial is enhanced by the OP logo, the inscription “CALIFORNIA” engraved on the flange at 12 o’clock and the little date window at 3 o’clock. 

The Radiomir S.L.C. 3 Days also has a historic dial of strongly minimalist design, with alternating bar and dot-shaped hour markers. This version was probably created in the late 1930s to experiment with the sandwich construction of the dial, in which two plates are filled with a layer of luminous material. The name of this watch refers to the “Siluro a Lento Corsa” (S.L.C.), the slow-speed torpedo on which the commandos of the Royal Italian Navy rode during their heroic underwater missions, equipped with Panerai watches and instruments. 

The Radiomir California 3 Days (PAM00424) and the Radiomir S.L.C. 3 Days (PAM00425) form part of the Historic Collection and are supplied with a cambered sapphire crystal and a brown leather strap fastened by a polished steel buckle.

Panerai has introduced many new watches at the SIHH 2012, and we have been presenting a few already. Today we get a first look and specs of the Radiomir 8 Days GMT Oro Rosso 45 mm Special Edition. 

This new timepiece by Officine Panerai is the perfect blend of elegance and sophistication. The classic aesthetic of the Radiomir, here in red gold in the 45mm size, is combined with an original and highly sophisticated version of the P.2002 movement, featuring finely skeletonised bridges and barrels which can be seen through the large sapphire crystal on the back. 

The dark brown dial with satin-finished sunray treatment is protected by a sapphire crystal made from corundum and with anti-reflective treatment. It has the sandwich construction typical of Panerai watches: the luminous material is spread generously between the two thin metal plates, the upper one of which is perforated to correspond with the hour markers and figures.

Office Panera is introducing a new unique watc: the Tuttonero Luminor 1950 3 days GMT Automatic Ceramic 44 mm, made entirely of matt black ceramic.

This new Tuttonero model has an extraordinary aesthetic impact, which is faithful to the Panerai identity and constructed using the most advanced technologies in the field of materials. The Luminor 1950 case with a diameter of 44mm, and the lever device protecting the winding crown which makes every Luminor unmistakable and the dial which is of sandwich construction.

The design of the bracelet, made entirely of ceramic as well, is the result of lengthy research aimed at achieving perfect integration with the ceramic case. Each individual link is asymmetrical and has curved surfaces which enhance the soft feel and effective performance of the bracelet.

Among the many watches that were presented in the much anticipated SIHH 2012, we find the Panerai Luminor 1950 3 Days GMT Automatic Ceramica, or PAM 00441, a new creation by Officine Panerai. 

The PAM00441 is a 44mm auto-winding GMT in an attractive black ceramic case. The display back is smoked sapphire, though the P.9001 caliber and rear-mounted power reserve display remain clearly visible. Twin barrels provide 3 days of autonomy. The second time zone is displayed via the pointer hand.

The Panerai Luminor 1950 3 Days GMT Automatic Ceramica will be produced in a limited series of 1500 pieces to be released beginning in July. Each piece will be accompanied by a second strap and a steel screwdriver. The price will be 8900 euros, or the local equivalent.

Officine Panerai has partnered with the Fondazione Cologni dei Mestieri d’Arte to produce a new book on the yachting culture: ““Masters of the Sea. Italian Yatch Building, a Story of Excellence”.

The book documents how Italian leadership in yacht building, today worldwide acknowledged, is certainly based on design and style but also on skilled craftsmanship, technology and the traditional know-how of certain regions as well as on the values of a deeply-rooted culture of the sea. All of which can be related to some extent to the watchmaking industry as well and its Panerai’s close relationship to the yacht culture. 

Built on extraordinary first-hand accounts of the protagonists of many leading Italian success stories (entrepreneurs, master shipwrights, craftsmen, designers, yacht owners and skippers, including some legendary names that have made nautical history), the book guides the reader through an intricate and fascinating maze of activities and actors. The author aims at helping the reader to understand what the hallmark Italian elements of excellence are, what is the meaning of "Métiers d'Art " in the nautical world of today, as well as how to protect and pass on the culture of the sea, an enormous wealth of knowledge and values. 

“Masters of the Sea. Italian Yatch Building, a Story of Excellence” has been written by Professor Luana Carcano of the Bocconi University in Milan and is enriched with original drawings by Victor Togliani, one of Italy’s most famous illustrators.
