Rolex Watches

A story of technique.

At the very beginning of the XX century, the pocket watch was the masculine timekeeper as the wristwatches were considered to be for ladies.
Some time after Cartier surprised the world with the revolutionary Santos, Hans Wildorf, together with Alfred Davis, bet on wristwatches and started developing smaller mechanisms for them.
In july, 1908 Wilsdorf registered, in La Chaux-de-Fonds, a new brand called Rolex Co. SA de Aegler. He chose Rolex as the brand’s name because it was pronounced the same way in most of the languages.

Since the very beginning, Rolex worked hard in order to get the most reliable wristwatches. That’s why, in 1910, Rolex asked for the COSC certificate. In 1926, Rolex created the first watch submersible, the Oyster. English swimmer, Mercedes Gleitze, swam across the Ensglish Channel wearing the Rolex Oyster. The adventure certified Rolex’s first heroic mechanical deed.

BASELWORLD: Rolex's New Oyster Perpetual Models

Submariner Date, Explore and Datejut Lady 31 mm

With a prominent place the BASELWORLD 2010, Rolex illustrated the prestige and excellence for which is known with an impressive and outstanding stand.
Rolex is recognized worldwide for the quality and precision of its watches and also for sharing its wristwatch know-how and the enterprise spirit transmitted to connoisseurs Rolex audience.
The constant innovative and reinterpretation spirit was applied this year to the Submariner, the Explorer and the Datejust. These models, each with a unique identity, are recognized around the world as unsurpassable, timeless symbols of a certain art de vivre. They were presented, during BASELWORLD 2010, in new versions based, of course, on the vast Rolex heritage and honouring the passion for the perfection proper to Rolex brand.

Rolex Oyster Perpetual Submariner Date

The Submariner has expanded his horizons far beyond the element of its birth in 1953. At home in the depths of the oceans, a universe in which it remains the basic instrument of every diver, it long ago conquered terra firma, as the watch of action. Waterproof to 100, 200, then 300 metres as it successively evolved since its launch, the Submariner has always been the symbol of Rolex’s supremacy in waterproofness.

WHAT’S NEW?
It is today available in a steel version sporting a 40 mm case in 904L steel, of course, apart from being described as a robust timepiece, it is also waterproof and has corrosion resistance. It boasts a new rotatable bezel fitted with a practically scratchproof black Cerachrom insert with platinum graduations.
This new Submariner Date offers exceptional legibility thanks to hour markers and hands coated with luminescent Chromalight. Its mechanical movement equipped with a Perpetual rotor and a Parachrom hairspring pledges increased chronometric precision and reliability. Its unidirectional rotatable graduated bezel allows the safe reading of dive time.
This new model features the Rolex Glidelock clasp that allows for fine adjustments of the bracelet length.

Rolex Oyster Perpetual Explorer

Many attempts were necessary before Everest was finally conquered. It was 29 May 1953 and the heroes were Sir Edmund Hillary and Tensing Norgay. The both were wearing a Rolex Oyster Perpetual watch.
The Explorer persists in expressing man’s irrepressible need for achievement. From the very beginning, it embodies perseverance, experience and creativity, celebrating the strikingly relationship between technical developments, experience in the field, thought and action. It gets to be the incarnation of the constant and eternal relationship between Rolex and the outside world.

WHAT’S NEW?
The new Oyster Perpetual Explorer exemplifies that strength in today’s world, with its new élan to the sober and elegant lines which have long established it as an icon. Crafted from a block of 904Lsteel with exceptional anti.corrosion properties, it features a larger 39 mm casethat offers a bolder look and adds comfort to the wearer.
Equipped with a self-winding mechanical movement featuring a Perpetual rotor, a Parachrom hairspring and Paraflex shock absorbers, it reaches new heights of chronometric precision and resistance to extreme conditions.

Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust Lady 31 mm
Fresh, refined and elegant.

Fitting descriptions of the gracefully feminine new Rolesor models in the Oyster Perpetual Datejust Lady 31 mm collection, this delicate gems for daily wear are an invitation to share in their carefree youthfulness.
Theses new Lady 31 mm models in yellow, white and Everose Rolesor are available with a wide range of dials and decors.
The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust Lady 31 mm is available with either a fluted bezel or domed bezel set with 24 or 48 brilliants, reflecting the slightly rebellious and mischievous side of the pieces with a hint of intrigue.
The timeless lightness of this Lady 31 mm should not obscure the extreme precision of its mechanical self-winding movement with a Perpetual rotor.

Rolex Daytona Wristwatch at LOST

Rolex plays part at American serial drama television series

Lost is the American serial drama television series that follows the lives of plane crash survivors on a mysterious tropical island, after a commercial passenger jet flying between Sydney and Los Angeles crashes somewhere in the South Pacific.

Season 6 premiered on February 2, 2010, at its new timeslot of Tuesdays at 9:00 pm in the US and Canada and will feature 18 episodes. The sixth season follows two timelines, each an outcome of the detonation of a hydrogen bomb in the previous season finale.

Jin and Sun (Daniel Dae Kim and Yunjin Kim) on Lost

One of the series’ main characters, Jin-Soo Kwon, was given, at the beginning of the series, two identical Rolex Wristwatches; two Rolex Daytona.

Two identical gold Rolex watches were given to Jin by Mr. Paik to deliver to business associates in Sydney, Australia and Los Angeles, California. Jin delivered the first one, but crashed on the Island before he could deliver the second one.

Michael found the remaining watch on the beach and decided to wear it. When Jin saw this, he attacked Michael. After Sun explained to Michael why Jin acted the way he did, Michael gave the watch back to him. After the second raft was launched, Jin returned the watch to Michael.

After returning to New York, Michael pawned the watch at Gus' Pawn Shop in exchange for a revolver in an attempt to take his life. Gus noticed the watch's Korean inscription: "Congratulations… mutual cooperation… business development… Mr. Paik"

Rolex watches are popularly regarded as status symbols and BusinessWeek magazine ranks Rolex #71 on its 2007 annual list of the 100 most valuable global brands. Rolex is also the largest single luxury watch brand by far, producing about 2,000 watches per day

There are two series of the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona. The original series, produced in small quantities from the early 1960s to the later 1980s, has a four-digits model or reference number, for example the reference 6263. This original series eventually became iconic[vague] but in very short supply in the early 1990s, which led to a second series to meet demand. The second series has a six-digit reference number, for example reference 116520. The new six-digit Daytonas are certified, self-winding chronometers with chronograph  functions. Rolex was, and remains today, a sponsor of the 24 Hours of Daytona race at the time, and named its chronograph watch after that famous race.

Due to its limited production and iconic status, the four digit series Rolex Cosmograph Daytona is considered a rare watch to own.
